I’m recently learning React and my plan was to learn Node.js course next. Since I’m struggling so much with react courses just because its outdated and I am frequently googling for solutions and I feel like most of my time is being wasted trying to figure out the solutions. So, I was wondering if it’s worthy enough to take Node.js course that Mosh has or is it outdated like React and hasn’t been update for a while? I really like Moshes teaching method but unfortunately his lack of update to the courses and his focus towards Quantity over Quality is causing skepticism over taking the course.
So I really need your advice on this?
Also, I understand these problems are likely to happen in real world while working for employer but people like me who has less hours to learn in a day and have other job to attend, its difficult and frustrating to learn with a time crunch. Getting updated course and saving time is the intend when you pay for subscription. If it was free youtube video than I would understand that you’ll just have to deal with it.
At least you have the good habit to look for solutions. You’ll learn deeper that way.
Also learning takes time. Learning with a feeling of urgency might play against you.
That said, this is not a reason to go for a course that is outdated. Just find a newer option. And should any situation arise where you are stuck just accept it. Try to find the solution on your own, google and eventually ask.
Overall I get your point but the one about quality and quantity.
I take courses from another person on Udemy that would much more fall under the quantity and ultimately the quantity of repetitions (without sacrificing quality though). It is not particularly a way of teaching I adore but I get his point why he does that (especially now that I have not much time left for that). Simply because while I like to take info efficiently for like half an hour or so, he does small digestible videos likely to be followed bit by bit. Like 2 or 3 videos per day average 5mn each. For instance his GIT course did last like 17hrs. I’m pretty sure the content could be condensed to less than 7 hours.
IMHO Mosh content is just right or “rightish” to the least.
Good luck with your learning.
I don’t mind searching for solutions since like you mentioned it helps me learn deeper but it was all about the amount of time I have while studying. My plan was to complete few of these courses by certain time but it seems to be taking longer just because I’m searching for solutions since the version that I learnt doesn’t support some features. But thank you for you response.
Thank you for posting this. I have recently purchased a course and have been enjoying Mosh’s teaching method, however getting started was problematic due to outdated content (this was quickly resolved via the forum).
I have purchased one course with the intention of purchasing others but I’ll keep this in mind before committing to doing that. Appreciate that Mosh cannot spend all day responding to help queries, however I agree with your point, it is a business with paying customers; so, if the content is out of date and requires Google assistance to resolve, then I’d be more skeptical about further purchases.
