I am 67 years old and have decided to learn Python as a project in my retirement. I have worked as a PC support professional and have had exposure to programing concepts over the years. The first programing I did was in the early 1970s with cards which had pre punched holes which we pushed out with a paper clip. The language we used was called “Port a Punch Fortran” or “Portran”. All I can recall is that we had 4 variables (A,B,I,J) and, as our programs were run on the mainframe at night, we could run our code once a day. Next experience was using Basic on a Sharp PC1211. Since then I have used C and Pascal and, more intensively, dBase IV and Informix ISQL and Informix 4GL. But I have never considered myself smart enough or intense enough to be a real programmer. But now, I am retired, I am enjoying getting into it and there is no pressure. These days are the best times to be in computing so enjoy them.
