For those of you who havn’t seen the mail, Planetscale is removing the free hobby tier on April 8th, after that you’ll have to pay ~40$/month.
I suggest you find an alternative and migrate quickly.
Please notice, Planetscale uses MySQL, make sure you migrate to a service that provides MySQL as well.

If anyone finds a good free/cheap alternative, I’d be very interested! $40/month is way, way too expensive for my little hobby project.

I’m not sure of free MySQL alternatives, but this Reddit thread mentions several free-tier alternatives using other SQL databases, including [Supabase](https://supabase.com/) (Postgres), [Neon](https://neon.tech/) (Postgres), [CockroachDB](https://www.cockroachlabs.com/product/sql/) (Postgres [compatible](https://www.cockroachlabs.com/blog/postgresql-vs-cockroachdb/)), and [Turso DB](https://turso.tech/) (SQLite)

Hi everyone,

Railway is a good alternative for PlanetScale, it has a trial plan (no credit card is required) and supports various db services including MySQL
